"My journey to Taoist internal arts began after an unfortunate injury I received while training for the Ironman in 1998. After the surgery I suffered intense pain and discomfort until an acupuncture treatment permanently altered my understanding of human potential. All of my previous physical, mental and emotional experiences could not compare to the mysterious sensation of Chi (Qi) energy surging through my body.
Over 20 years ago my most respected professor advised me on the eve of my graduation to "go and make people healthy". Coming from a truly honest man who knew right from wrong, I gave up my justice career and set out to learn what human health was. Since I was young, I received intense training for developing strength and fitness however, no proper lifestyle teachings where available in my area. So, learning , teaching and making traditional and natural medicines for healing the body mind and spirit became my life study. Initially I trained hundreds of clients in facilities all over New England in health and fitness. But since my first Acupuncture treatment in 1998, I sought the doorway to spirit in the ancient Chinese way known only as Tao. While in medical school I discovered that the scholarly way could only lead to a partial understanding of the vast system of Taoist knowledge. I began to learn from martial arts masters who also offered limited teachings and often abused their amazing powers. Because I began the ancient 100 Days tradition, my personal Qigong practice almost immediately led me to what Taoist’s call the little death or ru ding, opening the doorway to the spirit world (I say it was "when the circus came to town") where one leaves the physical body and enters the state called ghost walking. While on active duty for the military I observed coronal discharges (auric fields) and my internal vision began to open as the veils to the other worlds lifted. After this intense experience I knew I needed to find a real master with true virtue and ability to further my training. I left school, the military, family, friends and the city moving deep into the forest of Mt. Hood for 8 years to pursue deeper training in nature...the old way. I trained day and night blurring the boundary between me and the wilderness until I became the wilderness merging with nature, the weather and the myriad forms of life. At this time Tao revealed itself forever changing my relationship with nature.
During this magical time, I was contacted by mysterious caller asking to use my rental space at my health center for a Taoist Neigung Seminar. In what seemed like no time I entered apprenticeship with Mugen Roshi (Sifu Max Christensen) my teacher, Tao brother and man of Real Virtue. Portland Kunlun School and Three Treasures Tea was founded in 2009. I now live at Stackhouse Village in semi-remote North Carolina. All are welcome to visit and share a pot of tea at the village.
